Hi everyone, recently I bought an Android phone and I was thinking to make cheap calls from my Google Nexus. So I was looking for some apps allow you to make SIP call on your Android. So here I have a round up of free SIP apps on Android.
First of all, to make free or cheap calls on your Android, a SIP address is required, which you can find many sip providers in this blog. I am using Goober. And a SIP client is also needed to run on your Android device. Below is the list I have collected and you can download them from Google Play.
1. LinPhone
Linphone is an open source internet SIP phone or Voice Over IP phone (VoIP) WIFI/3G, with video calls support for ARMv7 phones. It has many great features like Audio multicall and conferencing,SRTP media encryption,Address book integration and others. Installed on my Galaxy Nexus. Easy configuration and works fine. It took me a while to find the right Sip client but I think this it. Much better than CsipSimple in 2 important areas: Battery consumption and staying registered.
2. SIPdroid
Although SIPdroid is free app it’s supported well. And it has a very nice and simple interface. Works ok with my sip account, but call quality still not quite as good as voip by antisip. Contacts list does not list phone numbers, only names. Not tried the video yet. Continue reading
